Best tracker for ship tracking?

Zecman 7 years ago

Hi all,

I have a friend who wants to track his yacht with traccar.

Do you have a recommendation for a tracker?

Until today I only use the Android app and a two GT02 compatible OBDII devices.

The tracker for the yacht must be able to store locations while not in range of a cellular network (upload all locations when back online), must be somewhat resistant to high temperatures, salt water OR must receive a good signal below-deck / cabin / water resistant areas. Also it should not be too obvious that it is installed.

Its main purpose is to review the route traveled and to have a hint when it might have been stolen.

Cheers,
Zec

Hi:
there are some 3rd party vendors of satellite tracking devices--are you interested in testing?

Have you find the Best tracker for ship tracking?

Hey, no, this guy who offered product testing did not offer GPS hardware but pencils...

I was not able to find a suitable (cheap and woking) solution. Finally we used a cheap waterproof phone with an all satellite network receiver with the traccar app on it. This decision was made based on the facts:

  • Traccar will record even when there is no data connection
  • Even if the boat will be stolen, they will enter a cellular network sooner or later
  • There is no need for live tracking 24/7

Btw.: The guy offering test hardware offered to test pencils. facepalm
