I there a way to have post listed as new to old, instead of scattered through?

What exactly is scattered through?

It's ordered by creation time. Freshness is the time of last comment.

Yes, and that is were the problem is. If reading along on a post and one does not reply to it the post gets further buried in the hierarchy but there maybe others who reply to that post that clarifies something. I read almost every post on the first page and sometimes the second page. But I do not dig further. Just a quick look and on page 22 there was a reply only 7 days old buried in an original 2 month + original post.

Can we not have a forum were the newest post/replies are on top?

The problem with that option is that people keep posting on some old unrelated topics because they are on the top.
