what is the purpose of the deviceOnline & deviceOffline events?
It seems that these are recorded every time a device sends its position and can number more than 6000 records per day on only 5 active devices.
Is there anything relying on these events, such as Reports, Notifications, etc. if I purge them from the database

It should be safe to delete those if you're not using them.
But you should probably investigate why it happens so often. It likely indicates some connection issues.
