access modern interface
Have you tried logging in with default credentials? Do users that you created work with old web app?

Yeah, Ive tried several different users but always get "Invalid username or password" when I try the modern interface. If I register a new user in the modern interface I can successfully login to the old interface with that user.

I found the problem! my test password was 123456&@
the modern interface will not accept &@ the old one will. I created a new user for you and set it to pleaseletmein and when i tested it it worked fine.

I have installed traccar with the directions for digital ocean on an ubuntu server. Everything works fine in the normal interface but if i try to access the modern interface I always get invalid username or password. I can register a new user on that interface but can never login. is there somthing I need to enable somewhere?
