Configuring a TK-STAR OBD2 tracker to work with Traccar

stephenc 8 years ago

I really appreciate the help I'd received with my previous post which showed and confirmed the device to be faulty.

I have now replaced it with a TK-STAR OBD2 tracker which works instantly on http://mytkstar.net however I'd dearly like to get it to work with Traccar on http://demo.traccar.org

I had a go by adding the device to the list, then editing it by adding the Name & Identifier as 817****475 (number hidden for security) but the status remains as Offline. Can I ask where I'm going wrong? An easy to understand setup guide would really help please.

Have you configured your device to report to the server? I would need to know device id.

When I go to send a command, the SMS route is greyed out and so I choose a Custom Command.

For this I've tried begin123456 but I then get a NullPointerException

I'm afraid I just don't understand the system but am trying to figure out how it all works and comes together.

You can only send command when device is online. If it's not, you will obviously get an error.

But it is online, I can easily access it through the http://mytkstar.net site or by sending an sms from my mobile phone whereupon it replies immediately with it's location, etc.

I think you misunderstand the meaning of the word "online". It has to be connected to Traccar server that you are trying to send command from.

stephenc 8 years ago

OK, apologies. How do I connect it please?

Anton Tananaev 8 years ago

Check device manual or check with device vendor.

stephenc 8 years ago

The device manual only explains how to connect it to their mapping site.

Could you supply instructions for a newbie to connect to Traccar please. I'm sure there are many people who would find this invaluable.

There are thousands of GPS device models out there. Obviously I don't know how to configure each of them. That's why you should ask device vendor on how to configure their device to work with third party server.

OK, I'm getting a little closer in that I've established it will work on GPS Trace site if I connect the device as a ES-GP06.

Am I right in saying that if I send a command Adminip123456 40.122.161.243 followed by the port number the device will connect to http://demo.traccar.org

If so, please confirm the port number for this device.

Hi stephenc, hoy can try with port 5013 for TkStar. Good luck!

stephenc 8 years ago

Thanks for this Gaston, unfortunately it is still appearing offline althought after sending the command Adminip123456 40.122.161.243 5013 it responded with adminip ok

So then I tried going through all the commands again as follows -

• Begin123456
• Admin123456 +0447*******86
• Adminip123456 89.12.58.96 5013
• APN123456 giffgaff.com
• APNuser123456 giffgaff

each time it OK'd it.

Is there anything else I need to do? It is still appearing offline.

What is "89.12.58.96"?

stephenc 8 years ago

When I go to https://www.traccar.org/demo-server/ it says -

Demo server 1 (some ports are unavailable)

Device configuration parameters for the server:

Domain name: demo.traccar.org
IP address: 40.122.161.243
Port number: device specific

It was actually 40.122.161.243 I sent the command to, not sure where I copied the other IP from...
