Is it possible to have just a single port endpoint for all types of tracker devices?

Greetings to all the traccar community
I was just wondering what is the limitation of setting up a single port or endpoint rather than connecting a specific device model to a particular port to receive all the data they send.
Wouldn't it be just a matter of setting up a device request identifier to actually use the proper protocol on the message?
Is it not worth because it would perform poorly as there's an additional layer of processing?

It's not possible to know the right format if you use the same port for all protocols.
