Looking for a hardware option

David3 days ago

Hi,
I am looking at options for installing a tracker in my motorhome and Traccar looks like a good platform to use, but I am stuck with hardware. Ideally I don't want to use the OBD port because when motorhomes are stolen at the moment thieves are using the OBD port to activate replacement keys or bypass security, so would remove the tracker if it was plugged in.

Are there any ways of finding suitable hardware as the devices list does not seem to provide any links other than to the Freematocs devices which require OBD.

Thank you

David

Use an OBD extension cable. You can get some which just give you the power and ignition wires as bare wires. Or if you have a standard extension cable, cut into it and pull out the power wires. On the ones I use, white is the + and brown is the - connection.

Thank you, so are you saying the OBD devices only require power connection, they don't use any of the other pins for any reason?
I'd not picked up on that!

Much appreciated

All the OBD devices we use work like that... I assume Freematics is similar.

Some OBD devices use it only for power. Others use it to read data, in which case you need other pins.
