Medium better than High

Gustla month ago

Hi, just to mention, the 'Medium' setting in terms of accuracy is far better than 'High', which completely disregards heartbeat or distance. 'Medium' is better, but still weaker than the old app.

I wish you could bring some more information, why you think like this ?
What work and what didn't in your case? Mayby I could improve some of my settings...

If you ask me, "Medium" has a far better accuracy than "High".
Which is reproducible and reproducible between different devices.

The old app was still even more accurate.

Have you tried the highest accuracy?

I have found highest to be mostly reliable, however I do occasionally get a ping from a nearby tower (cellular location I think) which messes with some of my location automations in home assistant. I don't remember that being a problem with the old app. Did it use cell location in high accuracy mode too?

It depends on what app you used.

Traccar Client (Android) 7.9

Anton Tananaev25 days ago

Yeah, but there were two flavors. One for Google Play and one without Google services.

jy23 days ago

Which of these is the most accurate please? I have the following settings:

Location accuracy: Highest
Distance (meters): Disabled
Interval (seconds): 1
Angle (degrees): Disabled
Stationary heartbeat (seconds): 60

App from app store: Traccar Client (Android) 9.5.2

I found the tracking okay but cutting corners or taking a larger arc around the bends. Not map matched very well or accurate to my true position. Whereas I never had these issues before with the older server.
Can you advise please Anton?

Ah. I believe I was using the the non-google version from GitHub.

Anton Tananaev23 days ago

@jy I recommend reading this: https://www.traccar.org/client-configuration/

@depth7503 that would explain the behavior

Gustl23 days ago

I am using the Github-Version too.
Will try "Highest", was concerned about battery-draining.

Anton Tananaev23 days ago

It would be the same or batter battery life than it was on the old version.

depth750323 days ago

@gustl, in my experience, battery life is good even on highest.

Anton, I see. Is there any way to prevent the pings from towers and only use GPS?

Anton Tananaev22 days ago

Not that I know of, but you should be able to filter it on the server by accuracy.
