Even though you could technically do it. However I think it will be much easier to simply build a simple webapp with openlayers and openstreetmaps, then just query the buses api you wish to display on a map and just add it to your map. It would be a cool simple project to do with your son I think

My son is interested in tracking buses in the UK were we live, here in England we have an API called the bus open data service which allows people to see location data buses.
I was showing him traccar and I wondered if there is a way to post location data of his faveourite bus to the traccar manager, but in order to do this we would need to know a way off posting data to the demo server not using traccar client. Is this possible?
