SMS cost control is a real problem. If you're charging customers $10 a month for a service and SMS costs like 9 cents a message it will eat your profits in short order.
We only allow or use SMS for one single command which is essentially a force check-in to make the tracker connect to the server. This allows commands to be sent via the IP connection. Eventually we're likely to end up customising the code to force check-ins as part of a command send.
Is there a way to limit the number of SMS messages user can get from sms gateway?
