US-Compatible Traccar Devices: What Actually Works (After 3 Years of Trial and Error)

I've spent almost three years as a basic Traccar user managing our fleet. I'm not an expert programmer, but I've put a lot of time into finding reliable devices that report data back to this great piece of software. Here's what I've learned — including a device I just found that's finally solved a long-standing problem.
The Problem With Freematics
Freematics claims to support US carriers, but it doesn't work with Verizon — which is a huge issue if you're like us, operating in the western US where Verizon is the predominant carrier.
The root cause is the SIMCOM chip, which isn't Verizon-certified. That actually makes reliability worse than simply "not supported," because the device will still attempt to connect to Verizon. Once it does, it gets stuck there until you either reboot the device or it loses signal and starts searching again.
GPS reliability is also mediocre at best. I've tried both the internal and external GPS units, and in my experience the device struggles to get a signal more than half the time. I put custom code on the Freematics firmware to log GPS signal during trips, and it confirmed this isn't just a hunch.
Why Not Teltonika?
Teltonika devices are just as hard to find in the US, and they're expensive. Even when I do track one down, it's often unclear whether it's a true US-compatible unit or an EU model in disguise.
Beyond that, almost every other device I've come across is either proprietary or not compatible with US bandwidth. So for small purchases, I've been stuck using Freematics — until today.
Enter the Queclink GV500MAP
A few months ago, I used AI to help research where I could buy a US-compatible device, readily available online, in small quantities. What came back was the Queclink GV500MAP.
There's already some research out there on this device, but I'm writing this post because it's the only device I've found that meets all of the following:
- Can be purchased online, in small quantities, within the United States
- Compatible with US carriers
- Works with Traccar on port 5004 (GL200 protocol)
- Uses verified Verizon-compatible hardware
- Accepts third-party SIMs (we use Hologram)
- Has been ROCK SOLID RELIABLE reporting GPS data with no cellular or satellite drops like Freematics constantly had issues with.
- Has an easy-to-use configuration tool with a lot of features — more than I've been able to fully implement in Traccar so far, but significantly more configuration depth than Freematics ever offered
- Based on my research (though I haven't wired it up yet), it should be fairly straightforward to decode the OBD2 data it already sends — I mainly care about CEL codes and fuel level

Not an OBD2 Vehicle? Try the MicTrack MT600A
If you need something that meets the same criteria but isn't for OBD2 vehicles, I've had success with the MicTrack MT600 (MT600A for US models).

- The site has shown "out of stock" for a while — not sure why, since I've ordered from them plenty of times before. I've also had success finding these on eBay.
- Make sure you get the MT600A, which is the US-specific model.
- Works with Verizon and has an easy configuration tool.
- Also requires a special COM/USB cable. I haven't confirmed it's identical to the one used for the Queclink, but both use a 5-pin micro-USB physical connector with standard COM serial/power pinouts — not the same underlying protocol, just the same plug shape.
Bottom Line
If you're on the hunt for small-quantity, US-carrier-compatible, Traccar-ready devices, the Queclink GV500MAP (OBD2) and MicTrack MT600A (non-OBD2) are both solid, currently-available options — something I haven't been able to say in three years of looking.
