I’m building a SIM inventory and platform-management system for GPS/IoT operations, and I’d like to hear ideas or feedback from people who manage SIMs, GPS devices, fleets, or multi-tenant tracking platforms.
So far, the system includes:
Role-based access control with Superadmin, Admin, and Operator roles.
Multi-company support.
SIM inventory management with carriers such as Claro and ZeroCarrier.
Support for SIMs with or without phone numbers, since API-based carriers do not always provide a traditional phone number.
Carrier API configuration, currently with ZeroCarrier/Hologram integration using secure backend-side authentication.
Platform/system account management, where platform credentials are restricted to Superadmin only.
Company-scoped access, so Admin users only see their own company data.
GPS platform/device tracking using IMEI as the unique physical device identifier.
Historical tracking when an IMEI moves between systems/platforms.
Historical tracking when a SIM is linked, moved, or reassigned to a different GPS device.
A clean UI with modals for SIMs, companies, credentials, platforms, imports, and history views.
Basic reporting-ready structure for SIM status, platform assignment, and SIM-to-device history.
The main design idea is to separate:
The SIM carrier/provider
The customer/company
The GPS platform/system
The physical device identified by IMEI
The SIM-to-device assignment history
This way, a SIM can enter the inventory from a carrier, remain unassigned at first, later be assigned to a company, installed in a device, moved between devices, or associated with different platforms over time, while keeping a full audit trail.
For now, I’m focusing on SIM lifecycle, platform credentials, IMEI history, company scoping, and future support for multiple GPS platform types such as Traccar-style systems.
I’d appreciate feedback on:
Best practices for SIM inventory design.
How others handle SIM-to-device history.
How to model carrier APIs versus GPS platform APIs.
What reports are most useful for operations teams.
What data should be mandatory when importing SIMs.
How to handle SIMs that do not have phone numbers.
