Traccar Geocoder result community vs suburb

Matt Mobius 23 hours ago

I am using Traccar-Geocoder for astoundingly fast local geocoding and its working very well.

One "issue" is that the results it gives my are the likes of 204 Beach Road, Coastal-Burwood Community, Canterbury, NZ

I don't need the canterbury if there is a way to drop that somehow and the "Coastal-Burwood Community" vs the suburb which is North New Brighton.

Searching in general on OSM data and geocoding there is talk of the data offering address.suburb vs address.comminity

Is this something that can be changed either with a change in the Linux Geocoder inenvironment or the settings in the data type returned.

Its not a big issue - Its just it makes the Address field a lot wider than it needs to be and is a bit over descriptive for quick skim reading. Eg it returns

23 Mendip Place, Fendalton-Waimari-Harewood Community, Canterbury, NZ

Where it would normally be referred to as

23 Mendip Place, Casebrook, Christchurch, NZ

Now this might be a better discussion on the Traccar Decoder github as its possibly more a configurable setting in that app. For my use and I would assume a lot of people they work mostly without a city so even being able to configure it to just return St Address and Suburb would be "nice".

Its not actually something that is causing me to lose sleep and Traccar is doing everything I need it for - Its just one of those little niceties that if its easily configurable thats awesome.

I know my regional settings in Ubuntu are wrong as the keyboard is not US (@ and " swapped) and I downloaded 24.04 LTS of server rather than 26.04 - 26.04 offers english New Zealand where 24.04 does not. Do the regional settings of the host dictate the way data is returned in Geocoding?

Addition:

After writing this and discovering even my Keyboard mapping was wrong I added and set the right locale and timezone so those settings are correct now.
Did a reboot and no difference so doesn't appear it uses the system locale to pick how to report addresses - Unless its set and install.

Addition:

I also went to openstreetmap, right clicked on a place I top regularly (Disc golf course) and it reports the address as

204 Beach Road, North New Brighton, Christchurch, Christchurch City, Canterbury, 8083, New Zealand

Where in Traccar / Traccar-geocoder I get

204 Beach Road, Coastal-Burwood Community, Canterbury, NZ

So it must be some regional convention or something returning "Coastal-Burwood Community" rather than "North New Brighton"

Any tips helpful - Its a very small cosmetic issue. I think because this has been such a massive performance revalation and was relatively simple to install and setup now I'm looking at small details and nit-picking.

You can try using different format:

%h %r, %u

You can also try version 1.0.10. It should be ready within an hour or so.
