There's no specific plan. Nothing prevents us from integrating it, but nobody asked yet. It's also unclear whether it's better than a dedicated tracker. Most of those APIs require pretty high ongoing payments to access.
I understand, thank you for the information. I think a dedicated tracker would be better, but it carries the costs of the tracker, installation, and SIM card. Using a factory tracker eliminates these costs.
I see great potential in this solution.
No, it doesn't eliminate any of those costs. Again, pretty much all those APIs are paid. Some of them have both initial onboarding cost and definitely ongoing cost. You're likely worse off.
The only good reason to use those APIs is when you need something it can provide, but a regular tracking device cannot. Like some sensor information or something like that.
I think if at all this is considered, it's best to implement smartcar.com API as they do all the heavy lifting and we can use one API for most manufacturers.
And price is reasonable as well.
huh funny I was actually just playing around with this Smartcar location stuff last few days and got it working using a webhook. If you want to see what I used its here: https://github.com/Marvinjon/smartcar-traccar-webhook
be aware that it was just quickly made with some AI models and I haven't had time to go over it all.
Hi,
Car manufacturers often have APIs that can be used to retrieve vehicle location data, for example:
https://developer.groupe-psa.io/webapi
https://developer.ford.com/apis
Many integrations are available: https://smartcar.com/
Does Traccar plan to integrate with car manufacturers' APIs?
I think such a solution would make Traccar unique on the market!
